## Summary

A late June 2025 Negotiation Club on three themes. First, the gap the guests see between the Social Democrats' fairness rhetoric and its practice: the taxation of dividends from unlisted companies that the party opposes politically, and a newly elected mayor opening redundancy talks weeks after the election. Second, the Academy of Finland's funding decisions and the question of who may challenge public research money without the discussion being converted into one about academic freedom. Third, the American strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities, the doctrine of the pre-emptive strike, and why air power does not change a regime. An opinionated conversation between two right-wing MPs that also concedes the limits of its own analysis.

## Three subjects, one method

The through-line is the distance between a stated principle and the instrument used in
practice: a party's fairness rhetoric against the dividend taxation its own members rely
on, a mayor's election promises against redundancy talks weeks later, and public research
money against the difficulty of questioning it without the exchange turning into one about
academic freedom.

## The claim that survives

On Iran the guests reach a conclusion that cuts against their own preference: an air
campaign does not change a regime. That, rather than the bombs, is the part of the episode
worth keeping.
